Great pool and restaurant

Liked almost everything except the smell of the rug in the room and not being able to read in bed due to lighting (no bedside lamps) Also, every place we stayed in Australia had only overhead lights in the bathroom, you can't shave or put make up on with overhead lighting.

Alice Springs is a very interesting town. We really enjoyed the city tour. Would like to have spent more time at least a day more.

They need more help

This was the best of all the hotels I have stayed at in Australia. Being American, I am use to a certain standard of cleanliness and service. I am not use to standing at the counter to ask a question but having to wait while the desk person served food in the resturant, delivered food to people in their room, or cleaned tables at the pool. For heaven sakes, get a permanent desk person. These poor girls were run ragged trying to answer calls, check people in, wait on tables, deliver luggage, etc.

The town was good, very interesting, the tours around town great. But I was told twice-don't leave the hotel after dark. Don't walk to the center by yourself. It was never explained why except for the aborginals walking in the river bed. I suggest that if crime is that bad after dark that the local police do something about it. I didn't like being held hostage in the hotel or that I couldn't venture to another restaurant at night at the mall.

This hotel was a great place to stay.

Excellent value. Great to be a bit away from the town and so close to the rock wallabies. Clean, everything you need in the room for breakfast. Handy to have supermarket and tavern so close with fun entertainment on Sat and Sunday. Would be even better if the tap had been fixed immediately and if the shuttle bus to Alice ran on week-ends. Nice pool, quiet spot because already outside tourist season.

Busy highway not too that far but this allowed us to spot road trains! Good to also have outdoor table/chairs to sit near lawn and observe the birds. Had already been here about 20 years ago but the place has obviously been revamped. Great to be able to book tours from reception (open early, closing late) where we had a very polite receptionist on the first night.

Alice Springs is an amazing place in many ways, much better that staying at Yulara where there are only tourists.

Loved it

You can pay a lot more for much less at other places in Alice. The staff (reception, bistro, housekeeping, the Big Boss) were all excellent, the room was very well serviced and equipped, the view was beautiful and the hospitality at the tavern rocked. Try the Barramundi with lemon, garlic and caper sauce.

Don't stay in Alice without visiting the Desert Park and Reptile Centre. West Macs were better than the Rock, go and get Forest at Glen Helen to take you up in a helicopter to see the Caterpillar Dreaming.

Value for the money

I stayed at Outback Pioneer Hotel. It was listed as budget accomodation, and the room was meant for four persons in bunk beds, but usd only by me and it was well worth the cost. It was impeccably kept, the service personnel were generally friendly - except in the food area for the pizzas etc,- and I felt welcomed. Lots of activities for those who want to party, play games etc, and efficient front desk service.

Uluru has many places of secifi interest and there are walks and tours to take. I had enough to do in the three days there.
